Narita boy ba12/13/2023 They're aiming for a December 2018 release. There are upgrades, RPG bits, vehicle sections, “time and dimension jump mechanics” and obligatory neon wireframes panning away into the distance. But now you, modern 1980s teenager, have been sucked into the game to save its denizens from HIM, the leader of a band of wreckers called the Stallions. A man called Lionel Pearl has invented the Narita personal computer and its popular videogame Narita Boy. That’s certainly one way to respond to a stroke! The story behind your sword-slashing hero is classic 80s techno-magicalism. I had a stroke and started to insanely work on the characters and the backgrounds of the universe that was growing on my mind.” “I had just left Friend & Foe where I contributed to the development of Vane (PS4) and was looking for an idea for my own game. “The idea of ‘Narita Boy’ came in the 2016 spring, while living in Tokyo,” he says on the Kickstarter. If you’ve noticed the Japanese aura surrounding it (how could you not?) it might have something to do with lead designer and artist Eduardo Fornieles living in Japan for three years. The Spain-based Studio Koba has brought its pixelly promise to Kickstarter asking for €120,000. Contents 1 Features 2 Gameplay 3 Story 4 Media 4.1 Images 4.2 Videos 5 References Features Purely handcrafted pixel sprites with rich and complex animations. It's scheduled to release on March 30, 2021. It was Kickstarter funded in April of 2017. It’s described as “classic 2D scroller action” with inspirations like Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery and 80s movies like The Last Starfighter. Narita Boy is a retro-pixel action-adventure video game developed by Studio Koba and published Team17. But to understand any of that, you really need to see it in motion, which you can do below. He’s stuck inside the computer dimension, you see, in a quest to save it from some red-coloured badthings known as the Stallions. Narita Boy is a game-in-progress where the hero flies a floppy disk as a hoverboard and rides a horse made out of old computers while slashing at red foes with a techno sword. If you're on the fence about this and dig the aesthetics, absolutely give it a shot! It's super fun, and I only wish there were more levels. Here’s something to coo at if you like your art done in thousands of tiny squares. This runs really smooth on the Switch (I know other versions had some bugs that made certain levels impossible, but I only experienced one minor glitch in my Switch playthrough which made a boss easier, so I didn't mind). I'm baffled by all of the negative reviews. Update: I finished the game yesterday, and would still give this a solid 9/10. That being said if you're looking for a game that's a work of art, this is absolute eye candy and an enjoyable ride through a retro-futuristic fantasy world. I would also like to be able to backtrack and replay certain moments, which doesn't seem possible so far. I could go on, the only drawbacks so far are the lack of a map and some ambiguity in where to go at certain points, but I see those as just part of the puzzle solving, and it hasn't gotten to the point of frustration. holy crap, the Synth Bard's theme is incredible, as is the western theme in the desert. The visuals in this game alone are worth the price of admission, the dialogue is lore-heavy yet clever and funny, and the music. There have been a few moments so far (no spoilers, but they involve transformations) where the game completely surprised me with awesomeness. I read some negative reviews recently so I was fully prepared to not enjoy the game but it is so enjoyable and it's kept me smiling the entire time. Been waiting for this for a couple years now, and the trailers sold me on the amazing character animations, unique designs, and techno 80s throwback aesthetic.
